The Sydney & The Ritz from Remix Classic Vintage Footwear

Below are my two new purchases from Remix Classic Vintage Footwear located in Los Angeles, CA. Remix sells shoes styles from the 20s, 30s and 40s. The shoes are unused and never worn.

In 2011, I posted about purchases I had made at that time. You can read that post, here.

Below is a new style shoe that has debuted.

Introducing SYDNEY, our latest style, a faithful copy of a sporty 1930’s/40’s lace up pump. From its grosgraine piping to its intricate cut-outs on the vamp and “peep toe” styling, it is a sporty two tone for spring. Featuring two sets of laces: a ribbon lacing and also included is a brown waxed leather lace for an alternative look. All leather uppers, lining and leather soles.

The heel height is 2 7/8 inches. Comes in sizes 6 – 10. Runs “true to size”. 

Color combination is White Nubuck / Cognac leather.

Adored Vintage Clothing and the Into the Wild shoot at Salvation Mountain

You wouldn't know by looking at this first image that this is an ad for vintage clothing and unless you are familiar with Salvation Mountain, you wouldn't recognize the backdrop either.

This Into the Wild photo shoot is meant to promote Adored Vintage Clothing. I often purchase 1940s vintage clothing from Adored, however, I never thought I'd see yet another "troubled" waif modelling shoot on such sacred ground. Sacred in its history and effort.

The Into the Wild shoot is no doubt named after the film Into the Wild which featured Salvation Mountain.

So what is Salvation Mountain? A place that no doubt was granted permission by its owner. So, in that sense, is it truly such a disgrace? Perhaps not.

Salvation Mountain is located in Imperial County close to the Salton Sea: it is a creation by Leonard Knight. Leonard is an 81 year old man who created this mountain out of his love for God. Travelers who believe and do not believe in God, have stopped to meet Leonard and see his amazing mountain.

Just this past year, Leonard has had some problems that come along with age. He's doing well, and the mountain continues to be maintained.

Although I feel that the model and the art don't go together, I imagine it will help fund the upkeep of the masterpiece.

I can't believe how great this is.

I Think I Need This

This might be one of the greatest images I've ever seen. Creepy babies; but hey, they're retro. Incredibly cute and simple rubber duckies and daisies, a top a mountain heap o' doughnuts.

Tower Records wasn't the best record store in the world, but it was a record store. In case you haven't noticed, we don't really have them anymore. Amoeba Records is my nirvana and I am indeed grateful for it. The day that store dies, a part of me will go with it.

I can't imagine what Tower Records was like back then as it was before my time. What pleased me about its existence is that it carried more than just mainstream recordings.

1940s Vintage "Navy Oreleans Dress" from Adored Vintage

Looky what I got! A new 1940s vintage piece purchased at Adored Vintage. The Vintage Boutique is located in Los Angeles. The show room is available by appointment and the site allows for purchases online.

AV finds their items at flea markets and antique shops. They sell their clothing in good condition and take the guess work (for the most part) out of sizing and fit. Eras range from 1900s to 1970s and an occasional 1980s piece. I'm almost always a 1940s gal, but once in a blue moon, I'll find a 30s piece I like. Check out the site, and see for yourself.

Sorry fellas, they don't sell men's clothes.

AV calls this dress, Navy Orleans Dress.

Description from the online boutique: Vintage 1940s dark indigo navy blue dress. Rounded neckline, short sleeves, and sheer illusion bodice along the top. Fabric has pinstripe piping throughout and contrasting horizontal lace panels. Features attached little brooch with rhinestone and original belt.

Belt buckle is a bit faded; stitching remains in tact.

Photographic Flashback Cape

Modcloth is calling this the Photographic Flashback Cape. The cape comes in black and ivory.

The cape is a sheer mesh, cotton crochet piece.

The model above is wearing the cape with colors which create a Frida Kahlo or flamanco-like feel. This is nice but not how I would choose to wear this piece.

Although similar, the black cape design is different from the ivory.

The Dita Von Teese Collection and The Perfect Audrey Hepburn Dress

Every now and then I find myself itching to find an Audrey Hepburn-esque dress. I search to no avail and I let the luke warm dream go. Yes, I admit, luke warm. Now, the desire is not so luke warm, being that I have come across a great basic black dress that has me leaning in.

The launch of Dita Von Tees's fashion line took place this past week. I have always had a love/hate relationship with Ms. Teese. Hate is strong word, but appease the figure of speech. As an anti-porn feminist, I take issue with her line of work, but as an admirer of art and costume, I love her glamour, creativity and sense of play. That, and I find her to be one of the most becoming women I've ever seen.

She executes vintage grace with her new line. The dress that I love is called "The Second Look Dress."

"There is a very simple, sleek black vintage dress I wear often, and one of my most elegant friends loves this dress, often stating it is so simple, yet it is the height of chic, with nothing to distract from the beauty of woman. I love to wear extravagant clothes, but every woman must remember to also have something simple but sexy to wear. Although, Hepburn's most famous dress is sleeveless, she has sported dresses with long sleeves.

So, what's a dress like this cost, you ask? Far too pricey for moi. $595.00. So, if you're a lil' clinical social worker like me, you're not going to be first in line for this. A Friend in Beads Dress

A Friend in Beads Dress, sold at Modcloth. A 1920s inspired dress! Readers of my blog, know that I most often stick to 1940s garb with a sprinkle of late 1930s. Well, here I am delving into the flapper era without getting too..flapper..y.

Here we have a rose hued chiffon dress that billows slightly at the waist. A top the material are silver and bronze beads.

Beaded clothing always makes me nervous as I imagine repair must be difficult and costly. Come to think of it, I've never researched this. Might be a good time to start. Additional beads and sequins come with the delivery of the dress. The dress of course, must be dry cleaned, only.

Shoes from India do not technically come in LEFT and RIGHT. Both shoe are of a general build, but they mold to your foot.
