fairy floss cupcakes

Just spotted this great cupcake is from a new cupcake shop called Cupcake Espresso and it is located in Newcastle, New South Wales. The below photo was found on their facebook page via Cupcakes Take the Cake.

Turkish Delight

Chocolate mud cake with Turkish delight chocolate ganache topped with Turkish delight and rose Persian fairy floss.

I had no idea what fairy floss was until now. It appeared to be a type of spun sugar. Well, it turns out that's exactly what it is. According to good ol' Wikipedia fairy floss is a term often used in Australia. And candy floss is often used in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa. U.S. and Canada peeps usually use the term cotton candy. I think I like fairy floss better. I'm fond of fairies. The name makes the candy seem more whimsical and even sacred.
