Accepting transgender boys, girls, men and women

More and more transgendered folks are appearing on tv. I think this is positive. There is so much mystery surrounding transgendered people and I think it's high time that we become educated. I am no expert but I can only imagine...really that is all I an any non-trans person can do...only imagine what that personal journey must be like.

Last year I found a very interesting and touching 20/20 episode on transgender children. I think it will be enlightening for anyone who has an interest in knowing more about transgenderism. Here you will get to know some transgender children who are definitely brave little warriors. They experience much pain but much joy when they feel they can be themselves. Barbara Walters does a very good jobs in interviewing these children.

Here you will also accompany the parents of these kids who must mourn the loss of their son or daughter. All parents in the stories below came to accept their children for who they are.

  1. It is true that to truly understand what a transgender person goes through one needs to be transgender. I know because I am transgender and spend a lot of time trying to explain it. But this can apply to almost anyone else too - I can't, for example, understand what someone dying of cancer goes through or what it would be like to be a man like my father. The best we can do is try to see ourselves in that other person's life and imagine to the best of our ability, and then just realize that they are human just like everyone else. That would solve a lot of the worlds problems if a few more people tried it.

    Thanks for this post.
