Red White and Green: My views and post of the American Pimp documentary
Street pimps all of them African-American, discuss their lives and work. They talk about how they began pimping and the inner workings of "the game." The women work hard each night and turn over their earnings for protection and "love" of the pimp. Some of the prostitutes speak about what they want in a pimp and what it is like to work for one. The film also features the white pimp and the women who work at the Bunny Ranch Brothel in Nevada.
As an feminist against pornography and prostitution I feel it is important to post this documentary. I saw this years ago and found it to be quite interesting. Perhaps this film will strike you as it did me. I couldn't help but think about the possible emotional and psychological reasons that pimps enter the game and why so many women want to be a part of it.
In today's culture the word "pimp" is often used casually to describe something "cool". I suggest we use a different word.
We here the word in music and it is apparent that you don't have to be an actual pimp to feel like one, or to glorify one. Am I the only one who sees something off with this?
The men no doubt find the pimp life to be glamorous and pride themselves on what they do. They seem to feel powerful as they brag about their skills as pimp and the money they make. Watch and form your own opinion.
I believe story telling is an art form and blogging is a medium in which to share stories and ideas. Within this blog I hope to cover a spectrum of topics. From the serious to the silly. Here you will read my views and inquiries about subjects such as feminism, other various socio-political issues, psychology, spirituality, sexuality, and general interests such as film, art and music. You will also be exposed to my obsession with cupcakes, tea, books, Hello Kitty, and quirky day to day journeys. I enjoy learning from others as I am constantly attempting to introspect, grow and evolve. During this process I will be jotting down musings on this blog. Pull up a comfy chair and a spot of tea and join me!
