Bowl Full Of Cherries

Often I'll sit with a bowl full of cherry tomatoes.  It's my popcorn, I suppose. When's the last time you've eaten a cherry tomato?  For those of you who find them in the occasional salad and eat them with dressing,  or those who have little interest : just try one. One. Bare.
..
What do you think?

Today I combined color,  texture, and flavor,  by adding strawberries. Just look at this! Is this pretty or what?

Fully Raw Kristina Says Thank You & Farewell to Her 11 year Co-op

After I post a recipe by her, I learn that she has to close her 11 year co-op,  due to big business take over. All she asks is to "PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL & ORGANIC FARMERS."

Kristina Carillo-Bucaram aka FullyRaw Kristina has been running the largest co-op in the US, stationed in Houston,  TX for nearly 12 years--which is how long she's been eating nothing but Fruit, Vegetables,  Nuts and Seeds. She cured her Hyperglycemia with Raw Foods and she has spent so much energy in motivating others to eat healthier. She started out posting YouTube videos,  and after a long run, she branched out to making a recipe book (you can grab it in book stores or Amazon) and started her FullyRaw juice company.  She is currently spending some time in Bali focusing on healing. I'm sending out a smile and some good ol' Love and Light. If you've ever been to a farmer's market then you know where to get the good stuff, and you are supporting wonderful people who bring it to you.  Thank you Kristina for all that you've done for
us. I know great things are to come.

All photos are not to my credit.

Her words below:
After 11 Years, why I am closing down Rawfully Organic. Many of you know me as the girl who carried around 80 lb. watermels and started a raw food community co-operative around fruits and vegetables in Texas and who educated people on how to change their health. Much has changed during the recent year, and despite my sadness in this video, I have SO MUCH HOPE for good things to come. I encourage everyone to PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL AND ORGANIC FARMERS. Your dollar makes a difference. Small businesses like mine go under everyday. Think about what really matters. Don't compromise your health. I want to say a very special thank you to EVERYONE, the co-op community and volunteers, for loving this beautiful larger than life co-op as much as me, for all of your time and support and hugs. It has meant the world. Me making this video is truly because I need to share with my co-op family what I happening and I feel the need to be open and authentic, in hopes it can help to create more positive change. I took time to make this video. I will continue to make videos and recipes. Much is in store. I truly appreciate your compassion and support during this time. Much love. HAPPY WORLD WATER DAY!

HAPPY WORLD WATER DAY!
Water is something that I cherish. I am incredibly grateful that I have such easy access. We need water daily to focus clearly,  lubricant our joints, detoxify, and it aids in weight loss for those who are trying to do that.

I drink 2 liters daily. The large water bottles you find in stores are 1.5.

Not only do we need to preserve water, we need to know the politics of water. It has become a commodity,  it is being privatized, activists and law makers are going head to head, and people are dying.

I recommend the book and documentaty, Blue Gold.

Below are photos of the my Vitamin Waters.

Pink and Green Fuels the Machine....or something

Watermelon and green apples.  I'm not one for Granny Apples,  but I decided to juice them, with the wa-wa, and it was a thrilling combination.  I felt the goodness inside.

Raw Zucchini Pasta with Garlic Tomatoe Sauce by This Rawsome Vegan Life

This recipe is from the raw food blog, This Rawsome Vegan Life. I love this girl's blog. Emily Von Euw is also the author of Rawsome Vegan Baking100 Best Juices, Smoothies, and Healthy Snacks; and on December 8th, she'll be releasing The Rawsome Vegan Cookbook. I  can't wait!

Now on to the recipe.

The Noodles:
3 spirilized zucchini.

The Sauce:
2 tomatoes
juice from 1/2 a lemon
1/2 an onion
1 garlic clove
2 dates
2 red bell peppers
1/4 cup walnuts

Blend!

Sometimes I'll add 1 jalapeño de-seeded.

The dish is topped with cut tomatoes,  cilantro,  and avocado.

I'm pretty sure mangoes love me

My mango stash is ripening fast, so down the hatch! Mangoes are a staple for me, so I buy a lot each week. Tonight I made a mono-meal of 5 huge Keitt Mangoes. So smooth that they practically melt in your mouth.

If I don't want to mono-meal mangoes I may add some cucumber,  cherry or grape tomatoes,  and drizzle lime on top . This is one of my favorite meals.

Depending on the size, one mango is 100 calories or a bit over. For the most part I know how many calories are in the fruits and vegetables I consume which makes calculations easier.

On the 80/10/10 low fat, high carb, raw vegan diet  (that's a mouth full,  and very eye roll worthy), I typically consume anywhere between 1500 - 2000 a day, depending on how active I am.  The more ballet, swing dancing, and dance cardio, I do on any given day,  the more I need to eat. Fruit is fuel.

Dragonfruit is Magic

A year ago I fell in love with dragonfruit. I found a few at Whole Foods  aka Whole Paycheck for.... $9.98 each!  Gasp. I know.  I picked it up,  sat it down, circled the aisle. Picked it up, sat it down, circled the aisle. 15 minutes later I justified it to myself and I bought it. It was worth it. It was small, pretty, and magenta.

It was mildly sweet which made the fruit all the more interesting. Being that it's such a spectacle, I would have expected different.

I was dying to find the variety that features white inside flesh.  I had heard that it was sweeter. I did some investigating and learned that an Asian market called the 99 Ranch Market sold dragonfruit. The closest location to me is in Gardena, CA.  15 -20 minute drive.  Quick!

Here's what happened.

I wish I could see what's happening to your faces right now. My jaw dropped.

Nature!

There is so much to appreciate here. I bought 6! $2.99 each! I got a white one!

Like rising buildings or a toss of the dice. Instead of scooping out the flesh I cut it mango-style as I once saw Wendi Phan from Wendiland do. The fruit skin didn't allow for the fruit to peel out, so it rose instead. A a weird, quirky, glorious vision.

Fresh, sweet, light , delicate crunch from the barely-there seeds, and color color color. It was indeed sweeter than the magenta flesh fruit, but I'm also adding in the fact this shipment is far superior to what I had found at Whole Foods.

Filled to the brim with gratitude and contentment. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'll be back next week!

Eat!

Grapes! I'm surprised these wormy things don't make my squirm. I'm actually content to sit hexing in the corner with a bowl full of these Witches Fingers. Are these in season in October?  They'd be perfect for Halloween.
