Peet's Christmas Coffee Cup Design 2015

Does anyone else get freaked out by this?

This year's theme seems to be "Merriment and LSD."

Pink and Green Fuels the Machine....or something

Watermelon and green apples.  I'm not one for Granny Apples,  but I decided to juice them, with the wa-wa, and it was a thrilling combination.  I felt the goodness inside.

The Polyphonic Spree and their 15th Anniversary Tour

Last night sparkled. The Polyphonic Spree ,  played at the El Rey in Los Angeles, as part of their 15th Anniversary Tour. For those of you who are familiar with the El Rey Theatre,  you know that it's a small venue. This excited me, as I knew this would create a sort of intimacy.

My first experience with The Polyphonic Spree took place at The Derby (R.I.P) in Hollywood.  The Derby was a landmark venue, and one of the several spots where I would swing dance.

The Derby was a tight squeeze, so watching this 20 piece band in such close quarters was intense.  After their first song, all was quiet. It was a...somebody say something kind of tension.  While we stood stunned,  one of my fellow attendees said;  "DID THAT JUST HAPPEN? !" The rest of us laughed, grateful for balloon -like release.

Since that night in 2002, The Polyphonic Spree has remained one of my favorite bands.

The Spree dressed in their most basic and recognizable garb, which they first fashioned at the time of their debut 15 years ago.

After the band played their first album, The Beginning Stages of..., there was a quick wardrobe change,  and then and then a second set that included their current fine tuned psychedelic pop.

As the music whirled around me, as I look up at front man Tim Delaughter, and see a whimsical close-eyed smile, and a swaying- sailing frame, towered over me. It’s been so long since I've sren a person enjoy music that much. He even shushed the audience when a few strays got to be too gabby.

As I watched this man swell, I found myself remembering the 2002 Tim, who looked like the Messiah,  with his mid-length curly chestnut tresses and extatic calm. Yeah; that's what I'll call it. Prior to that show I read an article in the LA Weekly that offered a brief description of the band, and a clarification from the band. This may be a mis-quote, but I recall, "We are not a cult."

I'm never one to shout out song requests, or bouts of praise, but in my head I said, "Happy 15", and out loud, at the end of the night, I called out, "Thank you."

Words From The Ill And Spectacular

I consider it to be a great compliment when someone in a raging state of psychosis tells me that I am a free spirit.

I'm pretty sure mangoes love me

My mango stash is ripening fast, so down the hatch! Mangoes are a staple for me, so I buy a lot each week. Tonight I made a mono-meal of 5 huge Keitt Mangoes. So smooth that they practically melt in your mouth.

If I don't want to mono-meal mangoes I may add some cucumber,  cherry or grape tomatoes,  and drizzle lime on top . This is one of my favorite meals.

Depending on the size, one mango is 100 calories or a bit over. For the most part I know how many calories are in the fruits and vegetables I consume which makes calculations easier.

On the 80/10/10 low fat, high carb, raw vegan diet  (that's a mouth full,  and very eye roll worthy), I typically consume anywhere between 1500 - 2000 a day, depending on how active I am.  The more ballet, swing dancing, and dance cardio, I do on any given day,  the more I need to eat. Fruit is fuel.

MONCHIE BAR by ONCH MOVEMENT

Thank you,  Onch of ONCH MOVEMENT ( jewelry designer. I actually have one of his quirky pieces. also; formerly on that Paris Hilton reality show where people competed for BFF status ).  He created something so Willy Wonka meets Candyland meets Rainbow Bright that I can't not be dazzled. Now, ordinarily I'm a person who fiercely dislikes white chocolate. Yes, fiercely. It's a fist shaking in the air, struggling hard to not hurt the feelings of freak children who have it in their smiling mouths kind of aggravation. I'm dark chocolate all the way. But then ONCH birthed something miraculous that this uptight, undeserving girl, wasn't even asking for. A white chocolate bar wiiiiiith. . . Sour Patch Kids, Gummy Bears, and Fruity Pebbles. Aaah! Needless to say,  I broke eating raw for this today.  Thus far I don't feel sick. Knock on wood.

Writing on the Wall, Revamped

A couple of days ago,  I was listening to an Abraham-Hicks/Law of Attraction audio while on my way to work.  Abraham was speaking to a man who was disappointed with certain circumstances that were holding him back from what he wanted.  Abraham stated that he must learn to train expectation. To expect the universe to deliver what is wanted,  and to get into the receiving mode.

Suddenly I saw a huge truck beside me with writing on the side of it that said,

 "EXPECT MORE. . . WE DELIVER. "

Dragonfruit is Magic

A year ago I fell in love with dragonfruit. I found a few at Whole Foods  aka Whole Paycheck for.... $9.98 each!  Gasp. I know.  I picked it up,  sat it down, circled the aisle. Picked it up, sat it down, circled the aisle. 15 minutes later I justified it to myself and I bought it. It was worth it. It was small, pretty, and magenta.

It was mildly sweet which made the fruit all the more interesting. Being that it's such a spectacle, I would have expected different.

I was dying to find the variety that features white inside flesh.  I had heard that it was sweeter. I did some investigating and learned that an Asian market called the 99 Ranch Market sold dragonfruit. The closest location to me is in Gardena, CA.  15 -20 minute drive.  Quick!

Here's what happened.

I wish I could see what's happening to your faces right now. My jaw dropped.

Nature!

There is so much to appreciate here. I bought 6! $2.99 each! I got a white one!

Like rising buildings or a toss of the dice. Instead of scooping out the flesh I cut it mango-style as I once saw Wendi Phan from Wendiland do. The fruit skin didn't allow for the fruit to peel out, so it rose instead. A a weird, quirky, glorious vision.

Fresh, sweet, light , delicate crunch from the barely-there seeds, and color color color. It was indeed sweeter than the magenta flesh fruit, but I'm also adding in the fact this shipment is far superior to what I had found at Whole Foods.

Filled to the brim with gratitude and contentment. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'll be back next week!

Eat!

Grapes! I'm surprised these wormy things don't make my squirm. I'm actually content to sit hexing in the corner with a bowl full of these Witches Fingers. Are these in season in October?  They'd be perfect for Halloween.

Livin' Free

Uplifting song from Evan Rock and Charles Haines. Both moved to the big island of Hawaii a few years ago as I understand it, to explore a life of sustainability via minimilism,  spirituality, an tropical fruit.

Evan Rock is currently putting together retreats that are centered around 80/10/10 low fat raw vegan eating,  as well as an embracing of spiritual growth. All good stuff.

One of the elements that catches my attention and interest is their willingness to harvest play and silliness.  Keep on keepin' on boys.

Sh*t Raw Foodists Say by Desi Domo

Hilarious.  A great example of not taking yourself too seriously.

(I can embrace this humor minus one comment about Lupus that I find to be a bit insensitive. I trust that there were no bad intentions from the actress.)
