For the moment, I am the luckiest woman on earth. Okay, there's no truth to that, but I feel incredibly fortunate whenever I spot a great vintage piece. I just purchased these 1940s shoes, which etsy store owner, Vintageaccessories4u, labels: Vintage 1940s Slingback Spectator Peep Toe Shoes - Mortinque Custom Made in Brown and White. What a find!
The etsy page specifies that these shoes were featured in the book, "Hot Shoes 100 Years".
When I first started swing dancing, the year was 1997. At the time every dance floor was filled with Saddle Shoes. I hate Saddle Shoes. My mom had me wear them as a child and I didn't like them then, either.
Over the years I've become fond of two toned vintage heels aka spectator shoes. I should specify that white/ivory and brown are the only matched colors I enjoy. I'm not a fan of black and white shoes. Until today, black and white or brown and white were the only vintage combinations (not counting current contemporary styles) that I had seen together. Click here, to view the same shoes in blue and white. They don't speak to me, but perhaps they'll whisper sweet nothings to you.
Thrilled, that the bottoms aren't terribly worn. Buying vintage is always a risk. Anyone who's ever scouted ebay, etsy, thrift stores, or vintage swap meets; knows how tiring, taxing, and often expensive the hunt can be.
Once you find something you like, you pray it's in your size. Once you've got that down, you hope that the item is in good condition. I won't know for sure until, this arrives in the mail, but so far, they looks good.
As you can see the left shoe's side panel is a little waning.
