"Note of Hope: A Celebration of Woodie Guthrie" - New Tribute Album to be Realesed on September 27th, 2011 - A Follow Up Tribute Album to be Released in January 2012

Woodie Guthrie was born on July 14th, 1912. He died October 3rd, 1967. July of 2010 would have been his 100th birthday. To commemorate it, some influential singers have recorded a compilation entitled. Note of Hope: A Celebration of Woodie Guthrie. The album will feature adapted music from unpublished lyrics written by Guthrie.

The compilation is scheduled for release on September 27th, 2011. Another compilation is set to be released sometime in January of 2012.

The tracks for Note of Hope: A Celebration of Woodie Guthrie are as follows.

1. Van Dyke Parks — “The Note of Hope”
2. Madeleine Peyroux — “Wild Card in the Hole”
3. Tom Morello — “Ease My Revolutionary Mind”
4. Lou Reed — “The Debt I Owe”
5. Michael Frani — “Union Love Juice”
6. Kurt Elling — “Peace Pin Boogie”
7. Ani Difranco  — “Voice”
8. Studs Terkel — “I Heard a Man Talking”
9. Nellie McKay — “Old Folks”
10. Chris Whitley — “On the High Lonesome”
11. Pete Seeger and Tony Trischka — “There’s a Feeling in Music”
12. Jackson Browne — “You Know the Night”

I'm incredibly excited, not only because I'm a fan of Woodie Guthrie but because my favorite folk artist Ani Difranaco is on this compilation.

Difranco has played her version of Guthrie's, "Do Re Mi" in various arenas as well as her version of Guthrie's "Ramblin' Round." In fact she played these covers during a live performance and recording at the Cleveland Severance Hall. Difranco produced a great tribute album entitled, "Til We Out Number Em'" and released it on her own record label (which she created when she was 18) Righteous Babe Records.

The concert was the finale of a 10 day celebration organized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum and the Woody Guthrie Foundation and Archives.

The album's name comes from a story told on the record by Guthrie's son Arlo Guthrie. Being that I adore good storytellers and that folk music is a great medium for storytelling I fell in love with this album instantly.

More stories are told throughout the album. The album features songs and stories by Ani Difranco, Billy Bragg, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger, The Indigo Girls, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Arlo Guthrie, Abe Guthrie, Sara Guthrie, Cathy Guthrie, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon and more.
