Affirmations for Introverts from The Introvert's Corner

I'm not much of a fan of the pop-psych magazine Psychology Today but I do follow the online blog, Introvert's Corner.

A recent Introvert's Corner post listed various affirmations for introverted personalities. In most situations I am reminded that I'm an introvert. The majority of my friends are extroverts and although we often balance each other sometimes I admittedly feel a little too different. I thought I'd post some of the affirmations for all you introverts out there. They are good reminders!
  • Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I have nothing to say.
  • Staying home is doing something.
  • Managing my energy is a favor to myself and everyone around me.
  • I like who I like and that's my right.
  • There's nothing wrong with saying "no."
  • I can love other people and still not be responsible for their good time.
  • Parties are supposed to be fun. When I stop having fun, it's OK to leave.
  • My presence is a gift, not a requirement.
  • I know what I need better than anyone else.
  • Putting on my dog-and-pony show is optional.

Christians vs Fans: Bill Maher's Opinion On Christians Who Favor the Killing of Osama Bin Laden

As a Christian woman I was waiting for someone in the media to speak up about this matter.

Real Time with Bill Maher - May 13th, 2011

In a 60 Minutes interview earlier this May, Obama rehashed the events that lead to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Obama made the statement that, "Anyone who would question that the perpetrator of mass murder on American soil didn't deserve what he got needs to have their head examined."

I remember thinking at that moment, "I guess I need to have my head examined." I suppose it's an unpopular opinion however, in the last month I've come to realize that it's not as unpopular as I would have guessed.

No doubt Bin Laden did bad things. He was a man who felt comfortable promoting hate and influencing others to hate. Yes, he murdered. I am not a fan of murder and therefore I was not pleased to hear that he was shot.

Under the circumstances it may have been the only way to capture him. This is what the news reports are saying. We all know that we cannot always rely on news reports. At least I hope we all know. So, I don't think we will truly know the ins and outs of the situation.

Ideally, I think it would have been better if Bin Laden was tried and sentenced. I highly doubt the majority of the American people would have been pleased with this decision and Obama may not have been as popular if he had made the decision to leave him physically unharmed.

I'm pleased that Bill Maher spoke up about this. I'm not always pleased with Mr. Maher's opinions but sometimes I think he nails it right on the head. This is one of those moments where I think he got it just right.

I respect Obama as a president and I do think he has concern for our country. This however is a decision that does not settle well with me.

$1.5 Million Peacock Feather Dress

(source)

A Chinese wedding dress factory said eight workers spent 40 days creating a $1.5 million dress from 2,009 peacock feathers. Per Surprising World, male peacocks each shed an average 200 feathers during an average year which means the dress would have needed dropped feathers from more than 10 birds for a year to gather enough for the gown.

The showing of this dress took place at a 2009 wedding expo held in Nanjing, China.

Lady Gaga's Unicorn Piano

Lady Gaga seems to join me in my affinity for the majesty and tackiness that is the unicorn.

Today she is performed her song "Hair" on Good Morning America. She is playing on a unicorn piano. A bold black unicorn with an awesome purple horn.

The PS22 Chorus performing Pretty Good Year by Tori Amos

PS22 Chorus performing "Pretty Good Year" by Tori Amos
~Amazing solo by Alicea~

The PS22 Chorus is definitely something to see. The kids are lead by Gregg Breinberg. Breinberg is a huge Tori Amos fan and he has his kids cover a lot of her songs. Being that I'm a huge Tori fan myself I thoroughly enjoy his selections.

I sometimes wonder what the kids think of Tori Amos' music. Tori fans have spent years theorizing about Tori's songs and trying to decipher her beautifully strange poeticism.

Pretty Good Year by Tori Amos
From the 1994 album Under the Pink

Tears on the sleeve of a man
Don't want to be a boy today
Heard the eternal footman
Bought himself a bike to race
And Greg he writes letters and burns his cds
They say you were something in those formative years
Hold onto nothing as fast as you can
Well still pretty good year

Maybe a bright sandy beach
Is gonna bring you back
Maybe not so now you're off
You're gonna see America
Well let me tell you something about America
Pretty good year
Some things are melting now
Well what's it gonna take till my baby's alright

And Greg he writes letters with his birthday pen
Sometimes he's aware that they're drawing him in
Lucy was pretty your best friend agreed
Well still pretty good year

painted shoes gray narwhal vintage heels

From Scholarly Articles on Etsy. Creative ay? I must admit I don't plan on purchasing these. I don't like the pointed toe and I don't think I'm daring enough to wear narwhals on a heel shoe. Even so, I think they are entertaining.

I don't use the word beautiful liberally. THESE are beautiful.
Bright maraschino cherries, fluffy creamy butter cream frosting that looks like whipped cream and multicolored sprinkles over chocolate. I'm a sucker for multicolored sprinkles. The inside consists of a banana cream. Exciting isn't it?

Dear Oprah, thank you for the years....

25 to be exact. On this day Oprah's final show aired and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

We have welcomed Ms. Winfrey into our living rooms for years. I don't think she could ever be as grateful for her audience as we are for her. She has not only served as entertainment but she has provided us with humor and grace, inspiration, education, encouragement, patience and kindness. Ms. Winfrey is a woman who so many wish they could be friends with and I know why. Not only is she someone who seems so approachable, so humble, so warm and someone whom you'd love to sit down and chat with but she is a humanitarian.

Dear Oprah, we give you a standing ovation and a round of applause. Thank you, thank you thank you. I can only hope our thank yous are enough.
