Ramona Quimby Riot Girl

A great statement for whatever it is you believe in and whatever it is that you are trying to get across to others.

The creator of the above piece must think Ramona Quimby is just as bad ass as I do.

The character Ramona Quimby from the Ramona series children books by Beverly Cleary has undergone some makeovers. From left to right, here’s Ramona rendered by Louis Darling in 1955, Alan Tiegreen in 1979, and Tracy Dockray in 2001. I prefer older versions of Ramona.

I read the Ramona books as a kid as I loved how spunky, opinionated and free she was.

Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks she's great. Check out this Ramona tattoo.

  1. Great post! I was doing a little Ramona hunting and found your awesome blog. Quite a happy accident.

I've been a Beverly Cleary fan since the second grade and always felt a certain resonance in Ramona since she always had her own take on things; good or bad. The most memorable book moments usually had her at the center of things.

She (Well Cleary or Quimby) had so much influence, I tried to do my own take as a novel: a six year-old girl who sees things in her own way and does something bold - whether it was the right decision or not.

Thanks again for extolling the virtues of Ramona Quimby on your site.
