Today I visited the Beauty Culture exhibit at The Anneberg Space in Los Angeles.

The Beauty Culture exhibit examines photography’s role in framing of modern female beauty and how these images influence our lives positively and negatively. The exhibit features works from over 100 world beauty, fashion and art photographers.
When I arrived at the exhibit I sat down and viewed a documentary which offered opinions from various photographers and their subjects about modern beauty and the society that influences it.
Below are some of the images displayed throughout the exhibit.

After walking around the exhibit for a while I needed to use the restroom. When I finished doing my business and made my way over to the sink I noticed the mirror had a video screen embedded in it which featured several women putting their makeup on.
I do not wear makeup so I wasn't able to mirror what they were doing but it was interesting to get that perspective.

On the drive home I began a conversation with the friend who accompanied me to the exhibit. I asked my friend what she thought life might be like if magazines, TV, and other forms of media would only depict women without makeup. No makeup, no airbrushing. Can you imagine?
