PETA's Exotic Skins Campain Seeks to Save Reptiles but Exploits Women

Otra vez?

Actress Laura Vandervoot from teen TV show Smallville is featured in the above ad.

PETA has launched their Exotic Skins campaign which aims to spread awareness about the protection of snakes, lizards, crocodiles and alligators. I don't want to negate the good work that PETA does but it is difficult to get behind an organization that has no problem exploiting women in attempts to draw attention to their cause.

These sexist marketing strategies reinforce the idea that getting naked for profit is chic. I wouldn't be surprised if celebrities or upcoming celebrities will pursue PETA as an opportunity to get noticed rather than an opportunity to promote the protection of animals. Perhaps this is already happening. There's no real way to know a person's true motivations and I won't claim to.

PETA will never let go of the sex sells angle which has worked for so many other companies and organizations.
