The Columbine Wounded Minds Project: 2012 Marks the 13th Anniversary of Columbine

Each 4/20 marks an anniversary of the Columbine shootings. 2012 marks the 13th. On this blog I have been marking the anniversary for the sake of rememberance.

On April 20th, 1999, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris murdered 12 students, a teacher and themselves. To this day; when you say the word, Columbine; we all know what it means. Two teenage boys shot up their high school, which still resides in Littleton, Colorado.

Sam Granillo was a student at Columbine High School. He was one of the many students who ran for his life on that frightening day.

According to ABC News Blog; Granillo is now 30 years of age and is a film school graudiate. He works on film and commercials and has worked on high profile shows such as American Idol. He says that he continues to experience nightmares, panic attacks and depression.

Granillo has begun a film project called Columbine: Wounded Minds. It is a documentary which seeks to help those who went through the experience.

According to ABC News Blog, Granillo has raised less than $20,000 of the $250,000 he needs to complete the film. One expensive barrier is that he needs to travel. Some Columbine students no longer live in Colorado, or even the United States!

Granillo says that he is intimidated by this project. “I’m worried I will do something wrong.  This isn’t about me, it’s about all of us.”

Resources

(Offers good information about the events. Journal entries from the shooters, autopsy information, police reports, information about the victims, the school and the aftermath.)

(Information about the Columbine Memorial, located at  Clement Park which is located at 7306 W. Bowles Avenue (at Pierce St.) in Littleton, Colorado).

(This is the best book about Columbine that you will find today. I first read it in 2009 at its release. Cullen spent 10 years working on this book and it gives insight and explanations to the events and the reasons behind it.You'll learn that the shootings weren't about jocks against goths. The boys were very different in their personalities. A devastating but important read).
