a gay rights campaign seeking to defeat Prop 8.
Her mother Cindy McCain is now following suit.
NOH8's founder, Adam Bouska, has noted that it is very "stigmatic" for prominent Republicans to support gay marriage publicly.
"In the year since we've started the NOH8 campaign, we've often been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support," he said in a recent interview. "Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain."
John McCain has made it quite clear that he opposes gay marriage throughout his political career and was quite vocal in his support of California's Proposition 8, which banned same sex marriage in the state.I'm sure Meghan McCain and Cindy McCain love and respect John McCain however they have been able to stand up for what they believe in despite the fact that their family member is so passionately against what they believe. I find their stance against the ban of gay marriage to be not only bold but a celebratory move.
Good for you ladies!
Republicans are so beholden to Christian fundamentalists that most can't be publicly truthful about such things. At least Cindy and Meghan are smart enough to not be on the wrong side of history.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem that republicans are often linked to fundamentalist Christianity aren't they? I as a democrat am a Christian. Although, some might peg me as a "progressive Christian."
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's easy to say that Cindy and Meghan McCain are smart as you and I both are also in the pro-gay marriage camp. But I personally would say that rather than smart, they are brave/bold. They are definitely sticking their necks out!
Thanks for the comment!
