The brain is an ugly thing. Sometimes as I walk and people watch I think of us all simply as walking brains. Not skeletons, not hearts, but brains.
In the sense that we do not use our full brain power we are able to mold, grow, learn, re-wire our thoughts and perceptions. In the sense that we must often challenge our mind if we choose to change and mature we are indeed battling chemical making and of course nature vs. nurture.
More and more I am paying attention to the idea that our thoughts really are energy.
Wayne Dyer - Behind Every Thought Is Energy (Wayne Dyer is a speaker and author on self development)
Below are quotes from the book Mind of the Soul by Gary Zukav. I am a fan of his books and although my higher power is God and his is "the universe" I have been able to take his works to heart and mind.
"Most people think their experiences show them who they are not what they have chosen." ~Gary Zukav (author and speaker on self development)
"When you choose to see yourself as incompetent, you create experiences of incompetence. When you do this consistently these experiences seem normal to you, and you do not expect to have other experiences. This process is self reinforcing because after a while you become convinced that you are incompetent, but that perception results from creating these experiences." ~Gary Zukav (author and speaker on self development)
"When you focus on your strengths, you see yourself as a competent person because your desires and strengths are aligned. You are at ease. So if you try to develop a skill that you recognize is beyond your ability, such as perfect pitch, and do not succeed, you will not suddenly see yourself as an incompetent person." ~Gary Zukav (author and speaker on self development)
"Your reactions to anger, jealousy, and fear are not the only reactions you are capable of. They are simply choices you have made so often that you cannot imagine choosing otherwise; but the are choices none the less. When you react angrily, you create the same experiences you created when you reacted angrily in the past, and when you react in fear, jealousy, or vengefulness, you do the same thing. You put yourself into a self constructed prison." ~Gary Zukav (author and speaker on self development)
"You continuall make choices whether or not you think about them, and each choice creates experiences for you." ~Gary Zukav (author and speaker on self development)
"Choosing is the act of creation. You make think you have no choice because, for example, you body does not look the way you would like it to look, or the person you want to be with does not share your affection, but nevertheless you must choose what you will say and do next." ~Gary Zukav (author and speaker on self development)
The words of Zukav and Dyer are concepts that I have not fully grasped. Re-wiring one's brain takes practice. I can think of myself as a kind, generous, resilient, intelligent and mature person. But I know that I am just a baby. As difficult as it can be it can feel quite relieving to humble myself and I understand that I truly desire growth and inpatience is a weakness of mine. I have a long way to go. Who's with me?
I believe story telling is an art form and blogging is a medium in which to share stories and ideas. Within this blog I hope to cover a spectrum of topics. From the serious to the silly. Here you will read my views and inquiries about subjects such as feminism, other various socio-political issues, psychology, spirituality, sexuality, and general interests such as film, art and music. You will also be exposed to my obsession with cupcakes, tea, books, Hello Kitty, and quirky day to day journeys. I enjoy learning from others as I am constantly attempting to introspect, grow and evolve. During this process I will be jotting down musings on this blog. Pull up a comfy chair and a spot of tea and join me!
