International Day to End Violence Against Sex workers

I'd like to call attention to case worthy of YOUR attention. Most of you know that I consider myself to be an anti-porn feminist, however, you may not know that I often consider sex workers to be allies. Finding pause with the variants of sex work does not equate to a shutting out of the men and women who engage in prostitution, film pornography, pinups, stripping and more. It's impossible to agree with the acts and beliefs of every single feminist, but if the core vision remains the same, pro-sex work and anti-sex work feminists can join hand in hand.

A very real issue that sex workers face is the danger of violence from Johns and on lookers.

Whether you attended the vigil or not isn't of the utmost importance. The issue is much larger than this symbolic event. No matter where you stand in the feminist sex worker debate, I am hoping that the majority of us can agree that violence is never warranted.

There is no such thing as "asking for it" if you aren't truly asking for it. It seems that sex workers are often on the receiving end of violence being that they have sex or present themselves in a sexual fashion. This is skewed logic and a cop out. There are plenty who have suffered rape and/or murder at the hands of someone who thought that sex workers were an easy target or that they deserved it in some way. It is time to end this.
