23 year old Claire wants a Labiaplasty
In Claire's case she is experiencing discomfort. How much was not detailed in this piece. If a person is experiencing extreme and persistent discomfort that is an issue that I think needs to be addressed. Addressed with surgery? I don't know. I don't have any experience in this area. I understand that some women experience sex differently with large labia and engaging activities such as walking and bicycling can become uncomfortable.
It is my understanding however, that the majority of labiaplasty procedures are performed due to cosmetic reasons. This is an issue. I do not shame women who are struggling with anxieties about their body parts. I am not immune to the love/hate relationship that so many women experience with their vaginas.
My suggestion to anyone who is deeply considering surgery, is to spend some real time thinking about WHY the surgery is desired and WHOM one is really trying to please. Who ultimately will gain from this invasive procedure?
The below videos might provide some food for thought.
The below video is footage of an actual labiaplasty. If you think you will feel queasy watching actual pieces of the vagina being snipped off, you best stay away.
