Non-denominational church performs exorcism on gay teen

I came across a video where a non-denominational church by the name of Manifested Glory Ministries. The video shows a teenage boy undergoing an exorcism in attempts to rid him of his homosexuality. My heart aches for the many gay individuals who are told or even convinced that they are evil by families and churches.

DISCLAIMER: THIS MAY BE A DISTURBING VIDEO TO SOME

Unfortunately, many ex-gay ministries exist. Not only that but some parents send their sons and daughters to ex-gay camps that will supposedly assist them in ridding themselves of their homosexuality.

Ex-gay ministries began in the 1970's. The first official group was called Love in Action. Reverend Kent Philpott was a co-founder of the group and wrote a book entitled "The Third Sex?", which described the conversion process of six gay people to heterosexuality.

These organizations insist that homosexuality is a choice and believe that through prayer and Christ centered therapies heterosexuality can be achieved.

As a Christian I am hurt by the many many churches that condemn the LGBTQ community. I believe that acts like the above exorcism and discrimination from these types of organizations will only lead a gay individual down a road of confusion, depression and quite possibly suicide.

I am not gay myself, but I can only imagine that it must be oh so difficult to endure the process of coming out of the closet. And then on top of that to face those who do not embrace or applaud that bravery but rather shame the individual. It is more than a slap in the face, it is a knife to the heart.

For information on positive change within the LGBTQ community there are many website to choose from. One that I suggest is http://www.couragecampaign.org. It it is a grassroots organization that speaks to progressive issues. Another good site is http://www.hrc.org(human rights campaign).
