Self magazine alters Kelly Clarkson's image to make her appear thinner

I am not a fan of Kelly Clarkson or Self magazine but I came across some interesting news regarding both. It seems the people at Self magazine wanted Kelly Clarkson for their cover. Well, they got her but instead of leaving her image as it was they modified it so the pop singer would appear slimmer. So, apparently they didn't want the real Kelly Clarkson.

Editor-in-chief of Self, Lucy Danziger, explains why the cover photo was altered in a blog post.

Did we alter her appearance? Only to make her look her personal best. Did we publish an act of fiction? No. Not unless you think all photos are that. But in the sense that Kelly is the picture of confidence, and she truly is, then I think this photo is the truest we have ever put out there on the newsstand. I love her spirit and her music and her personality that comes through in our interview in SELF. She is happy in her own skin, and she is confident in her music, her writing, her singing, her performing. That is what we all relate to. Whether she is up or down in pounds is irrelevant (and to set the record straight, she works out and does boot-camp-style training, so she is as fit as anyone else we have featured in SELF). Kelly says she doesn’t care what people think of her weight. So we say: That is the role model for the rest of us.

Liar liar pants on fire. That's what I say.

I highly doubt Kelly Clarkson is the only image Self magazine has altered for the sake of sales. It appears that Self wants the popularity of Clarkson but only on their terms. Lucy Danziger states that "whether she is up or down in pouds is irrelevant". It is amazing to me that this woman can contradict herself so blatantly. But really I don't see how she could come up with a real defense. It is a pitty that Self magazine chooses to be dishonest with their audience.
