The Massive Monkees celebrate 10 years

Seattle break dance crew The Massive Monkees are celebrating their 10th year. There are currently 24 active members. The Massive Monkees have won various B-Boy summits and while most competitions are labeled B-Boy there are girl breakers in this crew (and many others).

I was first exposed to the Massive Monkees when I was attending The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. The crew performed and also led a workshop which I took part in. I got down the basic move and I can do some rocking but I am definitely no pro. My skills lie in Lindy Hop and Ballet. Regardless I have always had a facination with breaking.

It was at the Massive Monkees workshop that I briefly met "Ana Banana Freeze" or "Ana Banana". I want to give this young lady props as she is putting herself out there amongst all the boys.

Here is Ana Banana's signature pose (she says the boys have a difficult time doing this one)

Currently The Massive Monkees are competing on Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew on MTV. None of the girls are appearing on the show.

The Massive Monkees have also been featured in documentary films such as The Way of the B-boy. I've got to say that it does bother me that "B-Girl" is not in the title of this films. Wouldn't be that difficult to add them to the title.
