Rafael Casal

Rafael Casal is a slam poet champion, recording artist, educator, and founding member of The Getback. He has toured his solo spoken word performance and his band & collective The Getback Crew, and co-wrote The One Drop Rule; a Hip Hop theater piece directed by GOLDIE award winner Marc Bamuthi Joseph, in collaboration with the San Francisco Jazz Ensemble and Alvin Ailey tap instructor Jason Samuel Smith. He is mentoring in public schools on staff at Youth Speaks, a non-profit literary arts program based out of San Francisco, which promotes literacy and youth development through after- school programming. He also performs at the Brave New Voices National Youth Poetry Slam.

I am always impressed with male artists be they straight or gay who perform pieces in which they are humble and not afraid to speak out against sexism. He does so in some of his pieces. He is a talented wordologist and...he's handsome too! Heh.
