Chris Rock talks about strippers in his comedy show "Never Scared"
Here comedian Chris Rock does a piece on strippers. I'm not even sure if he is aware of his contradictions or the fact that he actually makes some very important statements that point out the harms of stripping/pornography.
First he says that if "your daughter's a stripper, you fucked up!". Later he says that he thinks that what the strippers do isn't all that bad because husbands of American need to be entertained. That wives will take care of their husbands but will not entertain them. Is it really the job of a wife to entertain her husband? And is sexual exploitation the way to do it? And might I add...every stripper is someone's daughter. So, if you enjoy watching a woman exploit herself...know that she is someone's daughter, sister, mother, friend, wife, girlfriend, cousin, etc. Does it make sense to want to keep your own daughter away from stripping but relish the view of someone else's?
Chris points out that "every guy in here got a friend that's addicted to strip clubs". He says that these particular people cannot function in normal clubs. That if they are rejected in a club they then want to attend a strip club instead.
Men that are addicted or perhaps not addicted to porn often enjoy porn for similar reasons. Not only because it gets them off but because they are often in control when in the presence of a stripper or when watching a video. A stripper will most likely not reject you. A stripper will boost your ego, and give you that immediate gratification that so many desire.
Even though I disagree with pornography I do not shame the stripper. While, I think that they must take responsibility for their actions I also believe that personal exploitation becomes a good idea when influenced heavily by our society.
Chris Rock says that there isn't such thing as a smart stripper. I disagree. Strippers do indeed decide to strip to pay for college, others do it to feed their families, and others truly enjoy it for various reasons. But of course the background of each individual performer is not what is known or desired to be known when they are on stage. They would destroy the fantasy wouldn't it? I think it is important for those who enjoy strip clubs to understand that there is no way to truly know why the stripper before you is there.
I believe story telling is an art form and blogging is a medium in which to share stories and ideas. Within this blog I hope to cover a spectrum of topics. From the serious to the silly. Here you will read my views and inquiries about subjects such as feminism, other various socio-political issues, psychology, spirituality, sexuality, and general interests such as film, art and music. You will also be exposed to my obsession with cupcakes, tea, books, Hello Kitty, and quirky day to day journeys. I enjoy learning from others as I am constantly attempting to introspect, grow and evolve. During this process I will be jotting down musings on this blog. Pull up a comfy chair and a spot of tea and join me!
