The Ready is a band of girls who formed and honed in on their skills through a Rock n' Roll Camp for Girls. Former roadie Misty McElroy organized the camp so that girls can get a chance to express themselves through music. McElroy says that she wanted girls to see that they have a place in rock other than filling the roles of "fan, gropie, dancer or overtly sexy singer."
The camp has been running in Portland, Oregon since 2003. It is open to girls from the ages of 10 to 18. The week long stay includes group instrument lessons, band practice, song writing lessons, sound tech workshops and ends with a concert so the girls can display what they have learned.
In addition to these activities the girls can partake in zine making workshops, music video production, promotion, and even self defense. How cool is that?

I believe story telling is an art form and blogging is a medium in which to share stories and ideas. Within this blog I hope to cover a spectrum of topics. From the serious to the silly. Here you will read my views and inquiries about subjects such as feminism, other various socio-political issues, psychology, spirituality, sexuality, and general interests such as film, art and music. You will also be exposed to my obsession with cupcakes, tea, books, Hello Kitty, and quirky day to day journeys. I enjoy learning from others as I am constantly attempting to introspect, grow and evolve. During this process I will be jotting down musings on this blog. Pull up a comfy chair and a spot of tea and join me!
